To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, GCP conceived and created U.N. Way on East 43rd Street between Lexington Avenue and First Avenue as an appropriately grand gateway to the headquarters of the world's preeminent organization for promotion of international peace, security and equality. GCP's Capital Maintenance division periodically installs brand new streetpole banners showcasing the flags of each of the U.N.'s 192 member nations, and recently added a flag emblem for Montenegro, the newest U.N. member.
Since its establishment by GCP, U.N. Way has become a popular tourist destination for Midtown visitors and a much-traveled thoroughfare for strolling pedestrians.
